Keeping Your Trees Healthy

When I first bought a new house, I realized that the front trees were a little overgrown. I was worried about a branch breaking in the wind and smashing into a window or the roof, and so I decided to invest in professional tree service. When the arborist came, he had more concerns than just a few overgrown branches. Apparently, a few of my trees had also developed serious pest infestations, and I was worried about what it might mean for their health. He carefully trimmed each tree to ward off disease, and within a few weeks, they were looking a lot better. This blog explains how a professional tree trimmer could help you, so that you aren't left with dying trees.

3 Reasons To Remove A Tree From Your Yard

Joshua Mercier

Trees can be a great addition to your yard. They provide homes for critters and give you shade. However, sometimes a tree should be removed. If you would like to know more, check out these three reasons that you may need to remove a tree from your yard.

1. It's Too Close to the House

As trees grow, their crowns and roots spread out. Therefore, when the tree was first planted, it may not have been too close to the house, but as the roots continue to stretch, they may reach your home's foundation. These roots can be strong enough to damage the foundation and increase the risk of flooding.

Some tree roots, however, grow more vertical than horizontal. However, it still may not be good to have these trees close to the home either. Trees are homes and ladders for rodents and pests, increasing the risk of an infestation inside your home.

2. It's Dying or Dead

A tree that is dying or already dead should go ASAP. As a tree dies, it loses its durability, making it more likely to collapse or drop large branches. This can be deadly if someone is outside at the time, but it can also lead to structural damage to the home, landscape, or vehicles.

A dying or dead tree is also more likely to attract pests, particularly wood-burrowing pests, and you don't want these creatures anywhere near your home. Keep in mind that leaving behind a stump from a cut-down tree can pose the same risks.

3. It's Interfering With Other Plants

Trees can grow tall, which is great for them, but it can hinder other plants and smaller trees. The shade from the trees may be refreshing for you on a hot summer day, but plants that need sun won't thrive if a tree is blocking the sun. Some plants may even start to grow at odd angles to reach the sun, which can impact the overall beauty of your yard.

If you'd rather have the tree, you'll need to relocate the plants or use plants that thrive in the shade. If you want the other plants, however, you may need to remove the tree.

There are many reasons to plant trees, but there are also many reasons to remove a tree. In some cases, it may prevent major repairs and dangerous disasters. If you would like to know more, contact a tree service provider in your area today.
